When you decide to go to study away from home in a new city you have two choices: go to a shared apartment and live with three or four people or make a brave move and be the one living in a student dorm and live with a hundred or more per floor. This list is dedicated to those brave people who chose the second option, as you know, there is a lot more fun. There are 10 good things (and some not so) that only understand if you lived in a student dorm.
1. You never get bored.
It’s like that. Whatever you do, though all say they are busy and you are very bored, someone will be more boring than you and this person will propose a plan. Watch a series or a movie, play video games, picnic, go for a walk or a drink, chat, start a random party or make a 10.000 pieces puzzle.. And if, in the extreme case something out of this doesn’t happen, you can always sneak into any room and disturb someone for a while.
2. You know a lot of people.
During the whole university year you will probably live with about two hundred people and, although it is clear that you can’t get along with everyone, you will find nice guys that will make your stay there worthwhile. And you have to be extremely antisocial to not get along with a single person of all who live there. There are always creepy guys like you.
3. You forget the key inside and you can’t get into your room.
And you have to ask the housemaster for help. And trust me, the housemaster will remember your face FOREVER. Also because you will forget your keys hundreds of times…
4. You experience exams’ time more intensely.
It was bad when you were at home and you were locked in your room day and night studying, it is worse if you spend it in the student dorm when two hundred people are equal or worse than you. Stress, stress, stress and more stress. However, the breaks between study and study are the best thing ever.
5. In the beginning you are the perfect tenant.
You assist to the cultural or sport activities but after a while you changes this kind of activities for something more like PARTY. Suddenly you find yourself going out 4 times per week and thinking “it’s not enough, I am missing something for sure”…
6. The noise.
A student dorm is anything but silent. If not because of the music, it is because someone is shouting, and there are times when you want to sleep, when you really need to sleep, that they will make you want to go out and kill them.
7. You go to the parties not to have fun, you go to die there.
I have to be honest, the best parties I have ever had in my life were the parties in the student dorm where I lived. The amount of things that can happen in one night and the amount of alcohol you can consume is directly proportional to the hangover the next day.
8. You eat a lot.
And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT of not really good things… I introduce you your new best friends: pizza, pasta, hamburgers and sandwiches.
9. You do things that you are never going to do again.
This always starts with someone saying “why don’t we…”. In my time living in a student dorm this simple sentence caused: three visits to the hospital, our own homemade beer, the purchase of an ax, two trees fell and countless hangovers…
10. And above all, you make great friendships.
The friction makes the love. Being 24 hours a day with the same people you will end up making a group of retarded friends as you and you can be sure that it will be awesome.

And if you want to try bringing some trees down (make sure they are not protected) you can buy this awesome ax from Amazon.
